Epileptogenics Foci Visualizator - Site under construction

Daily pre-surgical evaluation of patients with intractable epilepsy requires analyzing complementary information gotten through Magnetic Resonance (MR) and Single Photon Emission Computed Tomography (SPECT) examinations. However, traditionally applied side-by-side appearance comparison, not only is a laborious process, but may present not trustworthy results, since these depend of subjective criteria used by the specialist. Throughout the years, lots of tools are being developed to facilitate this process and increase the trustworthiness of it. In this context, this work presents with the objective of offering an application implemented through volumetric reconstruction (RV) for three-dimensional visualization of lined up RM and SPECT images. However, ray-tracing algorithms, that are responsible for volumetric reconstruction, have too expensive computational costs. On the other hand, those algorithms are potentially parallelizable too. Thus, this work considers a concurrent implementation destined to multi-core architectures with multithread programming on C++ added by VTK (Visualization ToolKit) and threads POSIX. The choice of multi-core architectures is justified by the constant growth of the participation of these in the market.
